Sepilok Orangutan Appeal UK
Are the only authorised UK representatives for Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre.

The appeal recognises that it is also a responsibility to ensure the survival of the orangutan and are pleased that the Malaysian Government has given us the opportunity to help.

The appeal does not donate monetarily to the centre, but instead identifies specific needs, which it then adopts as projects.
Each project is funded in the UK and carried out by a team from the appeal.

Projects to date include the building of an exercise enclosure for the young orphans, the release of 3 captive full grown males and 2 breeding females into a remote reserve.

The provision of a Land Rover Defender to carry out rescues, and the refurbishment of a indoor nursery & quarantine wards, providing inmates with roomy stainless steel hygienic quarters.

Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre

Orangutan 1

The Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in North Borneo was set up with the aim of helping orphan orangutans to learn to survive in the wild.

Sepilok have already successfully rehabilitated hundreds of orangutans back to the wild and are eager to continue this very essential work.

Orangutan babies stay with their mothers for up to 9 years, being taught the skills they need to survive in the forest.
The most important skill of all is climbing, as they will spend their lives in the high in the treetops.

Sepilok replaces the mothers teaching by pairing the youngsters with older orphan who will show them the skills they themselves have already learnt.

The cost to rehabilitate for each orphan is approximately £1500
