INTRODUCTION
Over the past few years Natural Cotswold Stone Tiles, both new and second-hand, have become increasingly costly and are now in very short supply. It is because of this shortage, and the lack of a suitable alternative, that Marshfield Stone Tiles have been developed.
Marshfield Stone Tiles are a highly acceptable alternative to real stone tiles and have been used on many many homes in the Cotswolds including new houses and listed buildings.
Marshfield Stone Tiles can be mixed in with original Cotswold stone tiles, (for example), where there are insufficient to finish a roof.
Unlike other imitation tiles Marshfield Stone Tiles are extermely difficult to tell apart from the real thing, and will weather over the years to become indistinguishable from natural stone tiles.
MANUFACTURE
Marshfield Stone Tiles are manufacrured in concrete using a unique moulding process developed by the company, to reproduce exact copies of original stone tiles.
Over a thousand different size tiles are produced, and the concrete used in manufacture is coloured and varies in shade, so that when laid, the authentic appearance of a Cotswold stone tile roof is created. |

PERFORMANCE
Marshfield Stone Tiles are made by hand at our own factory in the Cotswolds, where we employ a quality control system to the standards laid down in BS 5750, to ensure consistent product quality. The tiles have undergone independent assessment by the British Board of Agreement who carried out tests for transverse strength, water absorbtion and sensity and freeze/thaw characteristics.
Their conclusion states:-
Marshfield Stone Tiles exceed the transverse srtength requirements of BS 473, 550:1971 (as amended). Tests indicate this the product will have adequate resistance to frost when used as a covering to timber roofs of 40 degree pitch and above in the normal exposure conditions of the United Kingdom.
Copies of the report are available for inspection if required. |

SIZES
Marshfield Stone Tiles are produced in fourteen different length sizes:-
24", 22", 20", 18", 16", 15", 14", 13", 12", 11", 10", 9", 8", and 7".
There are numerous width sizes in each length, supplied in sufficient quantities to give a good mix on the roof. All tiles are produced with a 7mm diameter hole for the tile peg. |

FIXING
Marshfield Stone Tiles are much quicker to lay than original stone tiles, as there is no need for sorting, trimming or drilling. Where necessary for hips, valleys etc. the tiles can be cut with a disc cutter and dressed with a hammer to give an authentic edge.
The roof should have an underlay or a current breather membrane, for example, Tyvek, Proctor Roofsheild, Klober Permoforte, as for original stone tiles. Marshfield Stone Tiles are hing or nailed using aluminium, copper or galvanised steel tile pegs or clout nails, or treated battens, as stated in our fixing specification, a copy of which is sent with each order or is available on request.
A batten schedule is provided for each individual roof with measurements taken from drawings provided or a site visit by one of our surveyors. Alternatively, tiles can be supplied to customer's' own requirements.
As Marshfield Stone Tiles are exact replicas of original stone tiles, they should be treated as such and fixed only by an experienced stone tiler and are not recommended for use on roofs with a pitch of less than 40 degrees. |
